Old Fashioned Baking Powder Biscuits ~ Tea Biscuits

Great for a snack with jam.
These biscuits are a
favourite with my family.

My Mom made these often,
to feed her large family,
with minimal ingredients.

This recipe yields around 15 biscuits.

They are a favourite of
my grandkids also,
disappearing fast when
 they're around.

Great served warm with butter,
also with soup.

Ingredients:

2 cups flour

4 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 cup butter cut into small pieces.

(If you like the biscuits, more flaky,
use a between 1/4 and 1/2 cups butter.)

1 cup milk.

Preheat Oven to 450 deg.F

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour

baking powder and salt.

Butter

Cut in butter until mixture is
 a course crumb texture

Add milk, stirring with a fork
to make a soft dough

Knead lightly for a few minutes.

Roll or pat out to desired
 thickness-about 1/2 inch.

Cut out biscuits with a
2 inch cookie cutter.

My favorite glass works well.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet,
Brush tops with milk (optional)

Bake 10-12 minutes or
until golden brown

450 deg.F
Delicious right out of the oven,  with jam.

Perfect Tea Biscuits should be golden brown

with a fairly smooth, level top.
They should be slightly moist,
 tender, light and flaky.

This recipe I took from an old Five Roses Cookbook.
I substituted the  shortening for butter.

  2. I substitute shortening or butter with health oil like sunflower oil or safflower oil and they turn out so fluffy and you use less oil and no need to nead dough

  3. I had to add some extra flour as the dough was much too sticky to handle but with that addition these were so delicious!

  4. These are excellent. Just made them for my 94 year-old Mother. Spread with traditional lemon butter and we LOVED them. We walked down memory lane with these biscuits. Thank you so much!

  5. I am so incredibly grateful to find a recipe blog with NO ADS!! It is truly a blessing to be able to cook for my family without being bombarded with images and pop ups that almost make most websites impossible to read anything. Thank you ❤️ the biscuits were delicious and my children enjoyed helping.
